For copywriting leads out the wa-zoo, a place to establish authority and an excellent platform for your portfolio, you can’t go past LinkedIn.
A lot of people aren’t using LinkedIn for leads and are missing out on billions of possible connections every month. If you are just focused on your clients and writing what they need,
you’re amazing, and committed to your craft and
It’s time to ask yourself: Are you a cobbler with barefoot children?
REMEMBER: Everywhere you appear online is a possible point of connection between you and your ideal clients. Using every point to generate and nurture leads is simply good growth strategy.
Why LinkedIn?
Let’s visit the stats:
👍🏽LinkedIn records over 1billion site visits every month, and is 277% more effective at generating leads than any other social media platform.
👍🏽8 people are hired through LinkedIn every minute.
👍🏽A professional headshot increases profile views 14-fold and listing 5 relevant skills generates 31X more profile visits than leaving them out.
👍🏽LinkedIn is responsible for 46% of the social traffic driven to B2B sites.
Using LinkedIn for a service based business like copywriting is a low investment way to generate income.
Follow these steps to make the most out of your profile-
📝Make an eye-catching profile banner using Canva. There are many great banner templates for inspiration or as a starting off point.
📝For a profile picture, A bright and clear headshot is all you need. Grab your phone, hold it at eye level and smile. Don’t lean on anything or be too serious or zany. Simple, clear, friendly. Done. 👍🏽
📝A great headline is 🔑key.
Follow this structure: [adjective]+[professional title] with over [#of years you’ve worked] years experience [producing, supplying, creating etc]+ [high quality, superior, excellent]+[professional outcome] for [type of client].
Eg- Award winning copywriter with over 10 years experience creating superior direct response copy for the tech industry.
📝Tag your top 5 skills
📝Name your website link:
For example-
🔗“see my portfolio”
🔗 “View my online gallery”
🔗 “Learn more about my services”
📝Post your best work, not your best performing LinkedIn posts, in the Featured section
📝The About Section: Everyone hates writing the about section so here are some tips:
📝Use the first sentence and a bullet list to prioritize the top 3 skills prospective clients find most useful- Example:
Provide quick turnaround to meet deadlines
Skilled researcher
Attention to detail for mistake free and ready to post copy
📝Try the 5 Sentences Rule to describe your skills and experience. This is the structure:
✍️What did you achieve ➕Who was it for ➕In what time frame ➕How did you achieve it ➕What did you avoid doing while achieving the results
Example: “I achieved a 100% increase in web traffic for an internationally respected beauty brand in 3 weeks by creating search engine optimized educational content without using ads.”
📝Keep your profile service-specific (except for volunteering work): don’t list employment that doesn’t relate to your current offer.
Your LinkedIn profile gathers together content you already have for interested potential clients.
🎄The holiday period is the perfect time to optimize your profile and prepare for everyone searching “service professionals” in the new year. 🎄
Grifter of the Week
I love Grifter of the Week.
This week’s grifter is Ian Stanley, the mastermind behind the 90 Days to Freedom program. AKA The Persuasion Hitman.
You might be more familiar with his autobiography:
I cannot verify the $100,000,000 claim, because despite multiple landing pages, there is a stark absence of any professional recommendations, client reviews or work history. He also doesn’t have a LinkedIn profile 🚩
His landing page starts off strong:
Whoa. What an incredible opportunity! What’s the grift?
In a nutshell, the $6000(!!!!!), the 90 days to freedom course will teach you how to write emails for businesses that already make sales, to make them more sales.
Then you negotiate to receive payment of a % of the sales you generate.
You don’t even have to write the emails, just use one that has been pre-written for you by a member of the Stanley clan.
(Apparently Brother Stanley’s pitch email is quite good.)
Yes, this is complete madness.
Here’s the F.A.Q:
Pump the breaks there Sparkey, there’s a couple of claims I need to clarify-
🚩 the first question- when you say the past few years: Is that 1 year? 10 years? You’d know when you started generating that degree of sales.
🚩Who considers Ian to be one of the best email marketers in the world? I need a name.
🚩The entire second question is a disaster. Here, I’ll fix it:
You’re welcome Ian. Click Here to find out how I can repair the entire nightmare that is your landing page copy.
🚩I’m genuinely concerned that someone who claims to write exceptional, world leading sales emails, writes like this.
BREAKING NEWS: The judging panel has decided Ian is to be awarded two honourable mentions:
🏆His book is not a best seller because he doesn’t want it to be.
Sure Ian. Your entire personality teeters on being known as the persuasion hitman, yet you’re handed an opportunity to make billions of dollars from the sale of your book and you choose to pass…….
I’ll be right back. I’m just recovering from the world’s greatest eye-roll.
🏆this epic disclaimer to avoid a lawsuit
If that doesn’t scream “Foolproof Program to Make Money Online” I don’t know what does.
LOL at “The average person who buys any ‘how-to’ information gets little to no results”.
I rate 90 Days to Freedom 6👵/10.
The reason why Ian deserves 6 grandmas out of 10 is because of the price. $6000 is a lot of money, especially these days, and people can’t afford to throw this much down the toilet. A grandma might lose her electricity for a $6K grift.
Aside from the price, Ian’s shockingly lite online presence deserves some attention. I cannot find him anywhere. Very strange.
So far on the leaderboard-
1st- “90 Days to Freedom” by Ian Stanley 6👵/10
2nd-“The Practical Coaching and Implementation Copywriting Program” by Guy on Twitter 3👵/10
